Experimental Analysis on Spatial Dynamics in Wide-Aperture 2-D HF Radars

چکیده
Digital data collected from each element of a L-shaped wide-aperture HF radar aperture can be examined offline with various beamforming and direction finding algorithms to assess statistical characteristics of received signals. This paper examines data on radio sources propagating to the HF radar via refraction off the ionosphere. The variations of the spatial properties of radio sources are examined over several time intervals to establish the spatial dynamics of the radio sources due to their propagation path. Impact of those variations on spatial filtering and potential 2-D array architectures is discussed.

Optimization Of Wind and Wave Fields for Typical Marine Radar Using Synthetic Aperture Method
This paper deals with the use of the wave-radar for sea-state monitoring. The radar used here is popular as marine radar. SEA STATE monitoring by X-band Mare Radar system is becoming increasingly interesting, also due to its spatial resolution, which is much higher than the resolution of the relatively more common high-frequency (HF) coastal radars. In addition, compared to HF radar, Xband rada...
متن کاملE-region decameter-scale plasma waves observed by the dual TIGER HF radars
The dual Tasman International Geospace Environment Radar (TIGER) HF radars regularly observe E-region echoes at sub-auroral magnetic latitudes 58–60 S including during geomagnetic storms. We present a statistical analysis of E-region backscatter observed in a period of∼2 years (late 2004–2006) by the TIGER Bruny Island and Unwin HF radars, with particular emphasis on storm-time backscatter. It ...
متن کاملSpeckle Reduction in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images in Wavelet Domain Using Laplace Distribution
Speckle is a granular noise-like phenomenon which appears in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images due to coherent properties of SAR systems. The presence of speckle complicates both human and automatic analysis of SAR images. As a result, speckle reduction is an important preprocessing step for many SAR remote sensing applications. Speckle reduction can be made through multi-looking during the...
متن کاملAdaptive Transient and CW RF Interference Mitigation in HF OTH Radar: Experimental Results
We introduce an adaptive technique for the joint mitigation of transients and continuous-wave radio-frequency co-channel interference (CW RFI) in high-frequency (HF) over-the-horizon radars (OTHRs). The performance of this technique is illustrated using data from an operational surface-wave radar (SECAR) and from recent experimental trials with sky-wave (SW) and sky-wave–line-of-sight (SKYLOS) ...
متن کاملSpeckle Reduction in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images in Wavelet Domain Exploiting Intra-scale and Inter-scale Dependencies
Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images are inherently affected by a multiplicative noise-like phenomenon called speckle, which is indeed the nature of all coherent systems. Speckle decreases the performance of almost all the information extraction methods such as classification, segmentation, and change detection, therefore speckle must be suppressed. Despeckling can be applied by the multilooki...
